It is not surprising to see Rangers personnel patrolling the streets of Karachi and doing a job that is, supposedly, the responsibility of the police. According to some estimates, only 29,000 police personnel are available for a population of more than 15 million. Furthermore, corruption, political interference, nepotism and lack of resources have made the entire police force in Karachi incompetent. As a concerned citizen, I do not object to calling in the Rangers to assist the police but priority should be given to reforming the police force as it is ultimately the primary responsibility of the police to maintain law and order.
