At least seven teachers including six females of a non-government organization killed as their team came under attack in Swabi, district of terrorism-hit province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said on Tuesday.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Swabi, Abdur Rasheed, the incident took place at Sher Afzal Banda area of Chhuta Lahore, a town in Swabi district when unknown miscreants opened fire on a vehicle carrying teaching staff of a NGO.
The vehicle came under attack while it was leaving the community centre in the area, DPO said adding that six female teachers were among seven killed in Tuesday attack while driver of vehicle sustained serious injuries.
Dead bodies and wounded driver were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Swabi where condition of driver reported critical.
Police and other law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene and cordon off whole area for search operation however miscreants could not arrested so far.
The incident took place a day before anti-polio campaign was to be kicked off Wednesday.
The dead bodies of the deceased were being transferred to Swabi Distric Hospital.
Relief teams reached to the spot of the incident and Police has cordoned off the area.
