A high level inquiry conducted by senior officials proved charges of corruption and misuse of powers against Deputy Director Colleges Sialkot as returning officer during Dec 5, 2015 local bodies elections in the district.

The inquiry has found Director Colleges Sialkot Liaqat Sohail Mir guilty and recommended stern departmental and legal action against him to the Secretary Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Sialkot DCO Dr Asif Tufail said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had posted Deputy Director Colleges Sialkot Liaqat Suhail Mir as a Returning Officer (RO) during the Dec 05,2015 LB polls in Sialkot district.

Liaqat Suhail Mir, being the returning officer, allegedly took Rs0.5 million in advance from Muhammad Ehsan Mayo (a candidate for the slot of chairman of union council Salhokey-Daska) and Rs150,000 in cash in advance from Allah Ditta (an independent candidate for the slot of chairman of union council Jhaaranwala-Daska) after striking separate deals with them to get these two candidates won in the LB polls by giving them out of the way favour in their respective polling stations. But, both of the candidates lost the LB polls. The accused was stated to be reluctant to return the said amounts to them as well.

The losing candidates submitted their separate applications to District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sialkot Dr. Asif Tufail for an inquiry against the accused returning officer.The DCO added that senior officials conducted a detailed inquiry against Liaqat Suhail Mir and the inquiry has proved him guilty in this regard. The DCO revealed that the inquiry report has recommended to the Secretary Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take stern departmental and legal action against him.

The DCO said that another inquiry against Liaqat Suhail Mir (Deputy Director Colleges Sialkot) is also being conducted. EDO (Finance) Sialkot Shuja Qutab is conducting this inquiry, in which the accused is also facing the charges of taking “special gifts” from the lecturers, assistant professors and professors of different colleges in Sialkot including Govt Murray College Sialkot district through unfair means by misusing his official powers as well.

ACE books ‘corrupt’ SHO: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has registered a case against Inspector Iqbal Goraya (SHO Noshera Virkan Police station) for releasing a culprit Gulzar alias Kala in a theft case after taking Rs0.2 million and the paddy yield (worth of Rs0.2 million) as bribe.

According to details, after being released from the police custody, Gulzar alias Kala moved to Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) and submitted application for registration of case against the accused SHO in this matter.

Director ACE Gujranwala Division Rana Abdul Shakur said that the ACE conducted a detailed inquiry in this matter and the inquiry proved the accused SHO as guilty. He said that the ACE has registered a case against the accused inspector Iqbal Goraya after this detailed inquiry, in this regard. ACE has started investigation after registering a case, with no arrest, in this regard.
