ISLAMABAD  - The District and Sessions Judge Islamabad here Monday acquitted former Minister of State for Communications Shahid Jamil Qureshi of the charge of murdering a woman of Canadian nationality Kafila Siddiqui. Justice Nisar Baig ordered his acquittal after hearing detailed arguments from both parties. Advocate Raja Rizwan Abbasi contended that there was no direct or indirect evidence or circumstantial evidence against the former minister, while advocate Baber argued that Shahid Jamil was involved in the murder. Mustafa Siddiqui, brother of late Kafila was also present, during the proceedings.   The former minister was arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of Kafila Siddiqui, who died on June 9 last year. The 38-year old woman of Canadian nationality was found dead at the house of Shahid Jamil Qureshi in Sector G-11/3. The Federal Capital police had arrested Shahid Jamil after registering a murder case on the application of her brother Mustafa Siddiqui. The Islamabad High Court, on an application filed by the counsel of Shahid Jamil, had directed the District and Sessions Judge on June 4 to complete the trial within 15 days.
