As many as 12 people including a woman were killed and 16 others injured in separate incidents of violence in different localities of the city during the past 24 hours. According to police, four persons including a woman were killed and 12 others injured in an armed clash between two religious factions in Godhrra Camp area of New Karachi. The dead bodies and injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Exchange of fire continued in the area for hours creating tension and panic among the dwellers. Heavy contingent of police have been deployed in the area to bring the situation under control. The police have also taken into custody 25 persons belonging to both groups who were being interrogated. Unidentified armed assailants gunned down two persons and critically injured another near Sindhi Hotel in New Karachi. In Nazimabad area a government servant was shot dead by unidentified men. The police recovered bullet riddled body of an unknown person spotted by locals from Malir. Three motorcyclists kidnapped one person and after shooting him dumped the body by roadside in Kharadar area. Tortured and bullet riddled body of another unknown person was recovered from Khadda Market locality of Liyari. Meanwhile two persons whose identity has not been ascertained were killed in separate firing incidents in Shah Faisal Colony and Gulistan-e-Joher areas. The incidents of violence have paralysed the route life and commercial activities in the city. Citizens hesitate to visit markets and picnic points which have also left bad impact on business activities. The citizens have expressed their grave concern over surge in crimes and violence. They were of the view that Karachi being industrial hub and supporting million of people from across the country directly affects overall economic situation of the country. The citizens termed the lawless in the city as conspiracy to weaken the base of country's economy and demanded the federal and provincial governments and authorities concerned to take solid steps for bringing the situation under control. Vast majority of the people have demanded the launching of a grand operation to free the city of gangs and arms.
