KARACHI - Counter Terrorism Unit of police claimed to have arrested an alleged member of Laskhar-e-Jhangvi during an encounter in Orangi Town, Karachi on Monday.
Police said the accused Makhroon Syed aka Saiful Islam was arrested along with two hand grenades.
The CTU officials said the accused was involved in over nine cases of target killings including the murder of sub inspector Iqbal. “Most of the people were killed on sectarian basis. He is also an expert of making motorcycle-borne improvised explosive devices,” said CTU chief Raja Omar Khattab.
Separately, Special Investigation Unit claimed to have apprehended three suspects allegedly involved in various cases of extortion. Their arrests were disclosed during a press conference held at the SIU office where SIU chief SP Farooq Awan informed the media about the arrests of the three key extortionists.
SP Awan said the arrests were made when SIU police on a tip-off conducted a raid near Nipa Chowrangi in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area. The weapons were also recovered from their possession. He said the arrested suspects were involved in a number of extortion cases in the City. Cases against them were registered.
OFFICIAL VEHICLE STOLEN:
The official vehicle of Sindh additional home secretary was stolen from Defence area on Monday.
The car, bearing the government registration number plate, was parked at the mezzanine floor of the West Point Tower from where it was stolen by unidentified culprits.
SHO Kanson Dean said it came into the notice when Sindh additional home secretary returned to Karachi from Islamabad and found his vehicle missing. Police have registered a case against unidentified persons on the complaint of additional home secretary Dr Naseem Sahito’s driver and initiated investigation. SHO Dean said the police were trying to recover the vehicle.
