KARACHI - Gunmen shot dead two personnel of traffic police in Orangi Town, Karachi on Monday. The personnel were apparently killed by the militants in reaction of the law enforcement agencies’ operation against the militants in Karachi.

Police personnel were busy in routine duty at Orangi Town No-5 when gunmen riding a motorbike came and sprayed bullets, said SP Sajid Sadozai. The victims were immediately taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where both of them succumbed to injuries. Both the victims were posted to the Orangi Town Traffic Police Section. Sadozai said the traffic police personnel were a soft target which was achieved by the militants.

It is worth mentioning here that various areas of District West became a stronghold of militants. The areas included Orangi Town, Mominabad, Pirabad, Kunwari Colony, Sultanabad, Manghopir and Pakhtunabad. Law enforcement agencies carried out targeted operations against the militants in the militant dominated areas and several terrorists have killed and scores of others were arrested since the Pakistan Army launched operation in North Waziristan.

Meanwhile, a man was shot dead at Bhens Colony Morr within the jurisdictions of Shah Latif police station. The victim was identified as Muhammad Rehman, 65. Police said unidentified gunmen shot dead the victim over unexplained reasons. He was shot thrice. The body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and later was handed over to the family after autopsy.

Sohrab Goth police found two shot dead bodies from separate areas. One body was found near Malik Agha Hotel at Super Highway and another from Sohrab Goth industrial area. Police said both the men were killed after kidnapping. After kidnapping the victims, the culprits tortured them brutally before shooting them multiple times. The bodies were moved to morgue, Sohrab Goth for identification after medicolegal formalities at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Meanwhile, an alleged criminal was killed in an encounter with the police in Phase-VIII, DHA. Bandits were busy looting the passersby along with his companion when police, on routine patrolling, tried to intercept them. During an exchange of fire, one robber was killed and his companion managed to escape from the scene. Police officials also claimed to have recovered a TT pistol and a motorcycle from his possession. The body was moved to morgue for identification.
