LAHORE - The Punjab government has decided in principle to restructure the health department and divide it either on the basis of territories (North, South) or status of healthcare institutions (Primary, Secondary and Tertiary), The Nation learnt on Tuesday.

High level steering committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary will submit its recommendations to the Punjab Chief Minister within 30 days. Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Rafiq and Parliamentary Secretary Health Kh Imran Nazir, political leadership presently managing the affairs of health sector, will not be part of the Steering Committee tasked with giving recommendations for restructuring of the department. The steering committee will comprise MPAs Qazi Adnan Farid and Dr Nadia Aziz, Health Secretary Jawad Rafiq Malik, Finance Secretary, Energy Secretary, King Edward Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof Faisal Masood, Health Direcor General Dr Zahid Pervaiz, Head Special Management Unit CM Secretariat, Additional Secretary Health (Admin), Project Director Policy and Strategic Unit, Dr Naeem-ud-Din and Member Roadmap team. The committee will review the present healthcare system and submit recommendations for restructuring of the department within 30 days.

PIC head sacked due to poor performance: The Punjab Health Department has removed Prof Bilal Zakriya from the post of Chief Executive Punjab Institute of Cardiology for poor performance.

According to a notification issued on Tuesday, Prof Nadeem Hayat Malik has been assigned the duties of Chief executive PIC.
