Memon suspends 37 TMOs

KARACHI - Sindh Information and Local Government Minister Sharjeel Memon has suspended 37 Town Municipal Officers (TMOs) for not obeying orders and not depositing the details of six months’ accounts of respective towns.
The minister took action on Tuesday while exercising his power conferred to him under Act “RSO 2000” with the warning that the services of these officers would be terminated if they failed to deposit the details of the accounts. These officers were issued showcase notice for providing the accounts details but they failed and finally the minister exercising his power suspended them.
The minister also declared that the government would not tolerate the corrupt and ghost employees in the local government department. He warned the officers and employees to work with honesty and dedication otherwise action would be taken against them.

FITEERS CONTINUES
On the directive of Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, the drive against profiteers is continuing.
In this regard, 11 profiteers have been sent to jail, an official said.
In all, 163 shopkeepers were challaned and fines to the tune of Rs318,000 imposed. The commissioner has directed stern action against those indulging in over-charging and it be ensured that every shopkeeper display conspicuously the daily official rate list and in case of violation action be initiated under the Price Act. In the drive in the metropolis, 27 milk sellers, 63 fruit vendors, 17 vegetable sellers, 20 sellers of eatables and 36 poultry sellers were challaned. On persistent violation, 11 profiteers were sent to jail. He said no one would be allowed to resort to profiteering especially during the month of Ramazan and the crackdown would continue.
Meanwhile, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Roshan Ali Shaikh has said that the 1122 helpline facility in the Civic Centre is also being converted into a 30-phone-lines-package so that it could be made available for more people all the time.
He expressed these views during a visit to the helpline centre 1122 in Civic Centre here on Tuesday, said a statement. Besides changing the helpline 1122 into 30 phone line package, doctors are also deputed for consultation, he said. The intense heatwave that continued in the city for five consecutive days last week resulted in many deaths mostly weak and old-age people which was unfortunate.
However, the KMC set up 42 heatstroke management centres in different areas of the city to provide free of cost medical treatment to patients suffered with heatstroke, he added. He said the government had taken speedy measures in this connection and the marriage halls had also been converted into heatstroke management centres where doctors and medicines were also made available.
The administrator said KMC provided free first-aid treatment to over 40,000 patients in the 42 heatstroke management centres. He said with the decrease in temperature the heatstroke cases were also lowered down and now the situation returning to normal. He said steps were being taken to create awareness among the people about heatstroke and its precautionary measures and soon a campaign will be initiated in this regard.
