Lesco asked to curtail losses

LAHORE (APP) - Managing Director, Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) Tahir Basharat Cheema Monday directed Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) to curtail line losses, check power pilferage, expedite arrears recovery, improve service besides streamlining billing system on priority basis. After reviewing companys overall performance at LESCO headquarters here Monday, he told APP that Federal Minister for Water and Power, Pervaiz Ashraf had directed for minimising line losses. He said all the Chief Executives of Distribution companies across the country, SEs, Xens and SDOs had also been directed to personally ensure the redressal of the genuine complaints of the consumers on priority especially excessive or bogus billing and wrong tariff. He said all officers have also been directed to remain present at their offices from 9 am to 12.00 noon daily to promptly attend the public complaints. He said he was fully committed to end the VIP and officers culture from all PEPCO offices and make them public servant. He said if any of the above officers was found absent from his office during public hours without any justification, he would be placed under suspension besides taking strict departmental disciplinary action against him. He said none of the negligent officer would be tolerated at any cost. Tahir Basharat Cheema directed LESCO Chief Executive, Ses and Xens to constitute surprise raiding teams in their respective jurisdiction to carry out series of physical checking of premises to help identify the unscrupulous consumers indulged in power theft. MD said that the performance of all SEs, Xens and SDOs in terms of above criteria of the authority is being monitored with the help of computer. He also directed them to improve their working. He further directed all Revenue Officers to send the cases of chronic bill defaulters to concerned SDOs and Recovery Officers for the realisation of the outstanding dues on war footings. He directed the Recovery Officers to get issued warrants of arrest of all defaulters irrespective of their social status after fulfilling all legal requirements so that government revenue could be recovered from them. He said that officers showing excellent performance would be rewarded.
