Rs5m looted in Karachi bank heist

KARACHI - Unidentified armed dacoits on Monday robbed two branches of Allied Bank Limited in a broad daylight in Gulberg and Clifton police precincts. Police said that four robbers including a security guard of the bank robbed the Allied Banks branch situated at Khayaban-e-Tauheed Commercial Area Phase-Five at around 8:00am in the jurisdiction of Clifton police station. According to details, the security guard of the said bank Mumtaz entered the bank to perform his duty at 8:00am. His three accomplices also entered the bank with him and managed to flee from the scene after looting cash worth Rs3 million. However, on the complaint of bank manager Khalid, police have registered a case 50/10 against the bank security guard Mumtaz and his three unidentified accomplices and initiated investigation. Police further said Mumtaz belonged to Chakwal and was doing this job since 2 months. The second incident of bank robbery was occurred in Karimabad branch of Allied Bank at around 4:32pm in the jurisdiction of Gulberg police station. Investigation officer of the case said three unidentified robbers had completed their crime within three minutes and fled away after looting Rs2m cash from the bank. Police have got the footage of the security cameras. Two out of three bank robbers wore pant shirt while one of them was in Shalwar Kameez, he added. On the complaint of bank manager Muhammad Asif, police have registered an FIR 269/2010 against unidentified armed culprits and started probe. We are striving hard to ensure the arrests of the said bank robbers and will recover the looted amount as soon as possible, he added.
