LAHORE Sayid Paper Mills Stags outclassed Muslim Gymkhana by 85 runs in the inaugural match of first Fazal Mahmood Cricket League at Garhi Shahus Railway Stadium in Group-A match where other teams are Model Town Green and Apollo Sports. SPM head Aizad Hussain Sayid inaugurated the event and said it would be one of the most befitting way to pay homage to the cricket stalwart of the past. Fazal died in May 2005 at age of 78. He was dubbed Oval Hero in 1954 when he captured 12 wickets for 99 runs to allow Pakistan to register their first Test victory against hosts England on their soil. In cricket, the great name of the legendry cricketer and medium fast bowler, blue eyed Fazal Mahmood is well-known to every Pakistani. He has gone down as an immortal in the annals of history and left behind his indelible imprint and legacy as a great sportsman, said Aizad who added that Fazals cricketing career spanning about 12 years testifies to his vital contribution to Pakistan cricket. Stags made 286-4 with Ayaz Tasawar 104*, Shiraz But 58*, Nadeem Javed 65. Shahzad 2-37, Noman 2-63 were successful bowlers. Muslim Gymkhana in reply made 201-8.
