ISLAMABAD The national volleyball training camp for the 16th Asian Games will commence Tuesday (today) here at Laiquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex, said an official of the Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) on Monday. As many as 18 young players have been invited in the camp and some players arrived here on Monday. The young lads will be given full chance to excel at international level and team for the 16th Asian Games will be picked from young spikers, he said. He said that most of these players were part of the team that clinched bronze medal in the Asian Junior Volleyball Championship 2008 that was held in Iran. Naseer Ahmed and Kashif Mansoor will not join the camp at earlier stage owing to some other commitments and they will attend the camp next month which will be handled by foreign coach Augusto Sabbtini from Brazil, he added. He said that the team will be sent to Kazakhstan in July for featuring in the Presidents Cup and then to Dubai in October for participating in Al-Rashid International Volleyball Tournament with an aim to give it maximum exposure ahead of Asian Games. He said the PVF had decided to revitalise club competitions in the country and in this regard it would hold camps in different regions from September. Initially, the PVF will revive clubs at the divisional level. Then top two teams from each division will be selected for competitions at the provincial level. After that we will expand it to the national level for picking up young grooming players for training camps, he said.
