Water scarcity has been artificially created in Karachi by the mindset of those who learn early on how to make anything into an opportunity for making money. I am sure there is sufficient water in all the areas if it is properly divided. If there was no water, where do the tankers get them from? The water tanker mafia has taken over the supply of water in the city and earning approximately 50 billion per year. Our poor and miserable people are playing into the hands of water tanker mafia. Approximately, 15 to 20 million gallons of water per day is stolen through illegal water hydrants in connivance with KWSB. These illegal hydrants are apparently protected by law upholders, political parties and certain authorities of the KWSB.
The business has become a thriving source of income for the owners in a short period and the water tanker mafia is increasing rapidly as the stakeholders are filling their pockets instead of attempting to control the threat. In the past, different governments only spoke about controlling such criminal acts but nothing happened. They just shut these illegal hydrants for a little time and then they restart again. I demand the government to ensure the supply of clean and potable water to every area of the city, besides taking action against the water tanker mafia and the corrupt officials of KWSB and other related departments.
