Peshawar - Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Monday condemned the use of force against teachers of the University of Peshawar who were protesting against the cut in their salaries and pensions.

In a statement issued here, he said that the QWP would stand by the teachers and other employees of the university. He also demanded withdrawal of the decision about the ‘unwise’ cut in the salaries and pensions of the university staff members.

The academic and non-academic staff of the Peshawar University staged a protest demonstration outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly building to ask the government to withdraw the decision about cut in their salaries and pensions. The police subjected the protesters to baton-charge and fired teargas shells to disperse the peaceful protesting staff of the university.

Aftab Sherpao said that the government should accept the just demands of the protesters instead of subjecting them to brute force.

“We condemn the use of brutal force against the peaceful protest of the university employees and demand immediate release of all arrested employees”.

and withdrawal of the decision to cut in salaries and pension of the university staff. QWP stands with the professors and university employees,” Sherpao wrote in a tweet.

Criticising the PTI-led government, the QWP leader said, “The incompetent government instead of giving any relief has added to the woes of all the people, as it lacks the ability to deliver.”
