Brendon McCullum became only the second batsman ever to score a hundred in Twenty-20 international cricket. The New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman achieved this feat by making an unbeaten 116 off 56 balls with 12 fours and eight sixes in the second Twenty-20 international match against Australia at AMI Stadium, Christchurch on Sunday (February 28). Brendon McCullums unbeaten 69 off 55 balls with eight fours and a six was the previous highest score by a Kiwi batsman in Twenty-20 international cricket. The right hand batsman from Dunedin also equalled West Indian Chris Gayles record of fastest century in this form of cricket by reaching 100 off 50 balls with 12 fours and six sixes. Chris Gayle also completed his 100 runs off 50 balls with five fours and nine sixes during his 117-run knock against South Africa at Johannesburg on September 11,2007. By hitting the sixth six during his knock, Brendon McCullum also set a new record of most sixes in Twenty-20 cricket. It was his 36th six in 33 innings of as many matches in Twenty-20 cricket. Indias Yuvraj Singh who smashed 35 sixes in 16 innings of 17 Twenty-20 matches holds the previous record. Brendon McCullum also became only the third batsman after West Indian Chris Gayle and Loots Bosman to hit eight or more sixes in an innings of a Twenty-20 match. New Zealand recoded their highest total in Twenty-20 international matches by making 214 for six in 20 overs. Their previous highest was 198 for five in 20 overs against Ireland at Nottingham on June 11,2009. Australia also made 214 for four in 20 overs to tie the match.
