LAHORE Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has decided to regularise as many as 404 employees from March 2 (tomorrow) who were earlier working on contract basis. The decision was taken by PHA Director General Abdul Jabbar Shaheen on the directions of the provincial government. These employees were also demanding their regularisation from the government and as head of the department, the DG personally take up their case of regularisation and requested the Punjab CM to resolve the issue of these employees who were working on contract basis since long. They were not getting the facilities, given to the regular employees, said spokesman of the department and director information Javed Shaida. He said that the employees, who are going to be regularised from the current month belong to lower cadre like clerks, drivers, gardeners, peons, helpers and guards. He said that these employees were working with the department for the last five to eight years and they would have to get their job renewed after every two years. Javed said that they were receiving only basic salary, fixed for the contract employees and were not getting any benefit or allowance from the government like medical, life insurance, house rent and utility bills. But now they would also be eligible to get all such allowances and other benefits including pension after retirements. However, he clarified that hundreds of daily wagers are not included in the list of those employees who are going to be regularised.
