MUZAFFARGARH - Hundreds of farmers staged a demonstration in a protest against non-payment of sugarcane dues here the other day.

They observed a sit-in and shouted slogans against the sugar mills management for not paying their dues. A spokesman of the farmers told the newsmen that more than 10,000 farmers were affected by the management of Tandlianwala Sugar Mills, Muzaffargarh Unit which was adopting delaying tactics to avoid the timely payments of their dues.

Taking notice of the irregularity, D CO Abrar Ahmed Mirza warned the sugar mills management that he would seal the factory under section 146-I (e) of PLGO 2001, if farmers’ dues were not cleared immediately.

He also asked the District Officer (Labour) Ghulam Abbas Somroo to serve a legal notice to the mill management immediately.

The farmers alleged that tout mafia was extorting five percent commission against the payments clearance and mills were not paying them support price of sugarcane fixed by the government.

They demanded the government to not leave them at the mercy of sugar mafia.

Result:  The Bahauddin Zakariya University has announced the result of MA Pakistan Studies (Distance Learning) Part-1 & 11 Supplementary Examination, 2011 here on Thursday. According to the result notification, a total of eight candidates appeared in the examination out of which seven were declared successful while on failed.

 Thus the overall success ratio stood at 87.50 per cent.
