Scores of brick kiln workers, their wives and children established a protest camp at Shahbaz Chowk to press for their demands for social security cards, fixed wages and other.

Addressing the protesters, Labour Qaumi Movement (LQM) District President Muhammad Shabbir and Secretary Muhammad Ashfaq declared that the sit-in would continue till acceptance of their demands. They informed that the district administration had promised to pursue the kiln owners to pay fixed wages of Rs740 per 1,000 bricks at their hunger strike camp on February 15 but the promise could not be fulfilled so far. They claimed that the brick kiln workers and their families were being treated by the owners as bonded labour.

Labour leaders Malik Abdul Majeed of Kamalia, Zahoor Ahmad of Pirmahal and Malik Nisar of Kamalia also spoke on the occasion and demanded the government to take notice of the stubbornness of the kiln owner and get implemented its own orders.

Meanwhile, a separate rally was also taken out by the activists of brick kiln workers union that was led by Ayub Anjum. The rally, participated by a large number of workers, marched different roads. They were also demanding implementation of fixed wages of Rs740 per 1,000 bricks to the workers.
