Pedro propels Shahsawars to Punjab Cup title win

LAHORE - Pedro Zacharias propelled Telenor Shahsawars to Borjan Punjab Polo Cup title victory over Newage/Master Paints 6-5 in the thrilling final played here at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Saturday.
It was a clash between two international players Pedro and Matias but the ultimate winner was Pedro who smashed fabulous five while Matias managed inspiring four.
Newage/Master Paints started the high-voltage first chukker hammering four goals – three by maestro Matias and one by top local player Hissam Ali Hyder – but star Pedro also made his presence felt hitting two inspirational field goals as the chukker ended with Newage leading 4-2.
The second chukker saw Shahsawars’ tremendous two goals which drew the blood at 4-4. It was prevailing Pedro who hit his third to make it 3-4 and then Bilal Haye scored an excellent equalizer to finish the chukker 4-4 level. Ace Pedro pounded two field goals to help Shahsawars enjoy 6-4 lead at the end of the third chukker.
Though Matias scored lone goal of the fourth and last chukker yet it wasn’t enough for Newage to record the title victory. The score at the end of the match was 6-5 in favour of Shahsawars. International umpires Ben Turner and Juan Cruz Losada officiated the final while Tomas Llorente was referee.
Borjan Chief Executive Zahid Hussain was chief guest and distributed trophies among the top performers. He was also presented souvenir by Lahore Polo Club (LPC) president Haye Mehta.
One and half goal handicap advantage and Juan Cruz Losada heroics helped Learning Alliance/Ravi Autos beat Army-Bank Alfalah by 5½-5 in the nail-biting subsidiary final. Losada struck four goals for the winners while Tomas Llorente scored three and Minhas brothers – Maj Haseeb and Maj Omer – hit one goal apiece for the losing side.
