LAHORE - An agreement regarding construction of Knowledge Park was signed between Lahore Knowledge Company and Usmani & Co. at the office of Lahore Knowledge Park Company yesterday.

Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan was also present on the occasion. Chief Executive of Usmani & Co. Asif Usmani and CEO of Lahore Knowledge Park Company Shahid Zaman signed the documents of the agreement.

Talking to the media on the occasion, Rana Mashhood said the Punjab government is endeavoring for the promotion of knowledge economy through amalgamation of corporate sector and education sector. The Lahore Knowledge Park will be constructed on 800 acre land and besides sub-campuses of best universities of the world, offices of business companies of international repute will be set up there, he added.

“The secret of resolution of our all problems lies in the promotion of education,” said Mashhood.

The provincial minister disclosed that Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif has allocated a huge amount of 21 billion rupees for this project. He added the IT University will establish its new campus in Lahore Knowledge Park and a land has been earmarked for this purpose.

Minister reviews work on Theme Park: Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar presided over a high-level meeting to review the progress on the matters relating to theme park.

Additional Chief Secretary Shumail Khawaja, Chairman Punjab Board of Investment & Trade Abdul Basit, Secretary Tourism Humayun Mehr Sheikh, DG PHA Mian Shakeel Ahmed, Director Law and officers of other concern department attended the meeting.

The meeting was briefed that acquiring land, other administrative and legal matters relating to theme park are being given final shape. Theme Park, Water park, aquarium, residential facilities and other commercial activities will be included in this project of international standard being set up on the pattern of Disney Land.

A Chinese company will make whole investment on the project and Punjab government will provide only facilities. The meeting was told that not only recreational facilities of international standard will be available to the people through this project but job opportunities will also be created for local youth.

Raja Ashfaq Sarwar directed concerned officers to immediately settle all matters for starting the project at the earliest. He added that officials of Chinese company will soon visit Lahore for given final shape to the matters after that the construction of theme park will be started.
