Chinese firm to fix Punjab water problem

LAHORE - A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Punjab government and Chinese company Sino Hydro Corporation for cooperation in water sector, here yesterday.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was the chief guest on the occasion. Wasa MD Ch Naseer Ahmed signed the MoU on behalf of Punjab government and Vice President Sino Hydro Corporation Lyu Liushan on behalf of the Corporation.
Under the agreement, the Chinese company will provide cooperation and technical assistance for the improvement of water sector.
The chief minister said the government acting on a mega project for the supply of potable water to four crore rural population in the province.
“Billions of rupees are being spent on providing potable water to the people of the province under Saaf Pani Project.” He said that the Chinese company can extend cooperation in implementation of Saaf Pani Project.
The chief minister said that the technology and expertise of China will be fully utilised. He said that the work is being carried out on the splendid Saaf Pani Project with speed, transparency and high standard.
He said that cooperation of Sino Hydro Corporation will also be welcomed for the mega project of provision of potable water to the people.
Shahbaz Sharif said that provision of clean drinking water is a big challenge and government is working sincerely on it. He said that the project of provision of potable water to the people is of great importance for protecting them from diseases and providing healthy environment.
He said that the experiences and expertise of Chinese company will be benefitted for the improvement of water sector. He said that Chinese company can also cooperate for the improvement of sewerage system and provision of clean drinking water.
Earlier, a high level delegation of Sino Hydro Corporation led by Vice President Lyu Liushan met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and showed interest in investment in construction of water and waste water project infrastructure.
He said that his company wants to work with Punjab government for the development of water sector. Provincial Housing Minister Tanveer Aslam Malik, Chinese Consul General Yu Boren, Kh Ahmed Hasaan, Chairman Planning & Development, concerned secretaries and other officials of Chinese company were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan Kidney & Liver Transplant Institute is of great importance for the treatment of kidney and liver diseases.
He was presiding over a high level meeting to review the pace of some matters of Pakistan Kidney & Liver Transplant Institute and Research Center, here yesterday.
Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that with the setting up of Pakistan Kidney & Liver Transplant Institute and Research Center, latest treatment facilities will be available to the patients of kidney and liver under one roof and free treatment facilities will be provided to the poor, deserving and destitute patients.
He said that Pakistan Kidney & Liver Transplant Institute will be a masterpiece with regard to medical science, clinical research, medical and public health facilities.
He said that the completion of Pakistan Kidney & Liver Transplant Institute will result in provision of facility of kidney and liver transplant and this institute will among the best in the world.
He said that like other projects of Punjab government, Pakistan Kidney & Liver Transplant Institute will be a masterpiece with regard to its standard and transparency.
The Chief Minister directed concerned provincial and federal institutions to make rapid progress on the project.
Advisor on Health Kh Salman Rafique, Managing Director NESPAK, President Board of Governors of Pakistan Kidney & Liver Transplant Institute Dr. Saeed Akhtar besides other senior officials attended the meeting whereas Provincial Secretary Medical Education & Specialized Health and the President Board of Governors of Pakistan Kidney & Liver Transplant Institute Dr Saeed Akhtar briefed the meeting on the pace of the project and future planning.
