LAHORE - Department of Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education, government of the Punjab, has declared Punjab Institute of Cardiology as Teaching Hospital.
Punjab Institute of Cardiology is offering Postgraduate Course MD Cardiology, MS Cardiac Surgery, Diploma in Cardiology, FCPS Cardiology, FCPS Cardiac Surgery, FCPS Electrophysiology, FCPS Interventional Cardiology and BSc Allied Health Sciences with the collaboration of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, College of Physicians & Surgeons of Pakistan, University of Health Sciences and Post Graduate Medical Institute / Punjab University.
Awareness seminar on HIV/AIDS: Provincial AIDS Control Programme (PACP), Health department government of the Punjab in collaboration with Govt. College for Women Gulberg (GCFWG) Lahore organized an awareness seminar on HIV/AIDS at the College auditorium yesterday.
Principal Government College for Women Gulberg Asmat Hashmi was the chief guest. Muhammad Faisal Majeed, Deputy Project Director, PACP briefed the audience about the situation of HIV/AIDS in the province.
Rashid Munir, Humaira Qureshi, Muhammad Usman, PACP, faculty members of the college and a large number of students attended the seminar.
Muhammad Faisal Majeed, Deputy Project Director, Punjab AIDS Control Programme gave an overview of current situation of HIV/AIDS in Punjab.
He said that awareness about the disease was a key to live a healthy life. He said that unsafe blood transfusion, use of unsterilized medical/dental equipment, use of inject able drugs and indulging in immoral activities were the main causes of spreading of HIV/AIDS. He informed that Punjab AIDS Control Programme was leading the Provincial AIDS Response and was providing preventive, diagnostic and treatment services. The government of the Punjab was fully committed to provide funding for prevention and treatment of AIDS.
He further informed that diagnostic and treatment services were being provided through 9 Centres of Voluntary Counselling and testing Centres (VCCT), 13 Surveillance Centres, 10 Treatment Centres for adults and children and 6 Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission (PPTCT) centres established in different public sector hospitals in Punjab.
He said that the Programme was also providing treatment and care services to pregnant HIV positive females through its 06 Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission (PPTCT) Centres established at Services Hospital, Lahore, Rehnuma Family Hospital, Lahore, Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, DHQ Hospital, Gujrat, DHQ Hospital Sargodha and DHQ Hospital, Dera Ghazi Khan. If no treatment had been provided during the pregnancy, 40 percent of the children would have been HIV positive, he added.
