ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif yesterday gave extension in services of Director General Intelligence Bureau Aftab Sultan for the third time.

Aftab was appointed by the prime minister as the head of the civilian intelligence agency after coming into power in 2013. The first two extensions were granted for one year each while this time it is for two years.

Meanwhile, Secretary Information Imran Gardezi has been given acting charge of Managing Director Pakistan Television Corporation.

The Cabinet Division moved the summary of extension of Aftab last week and the PM yesterday approved the summary.

Official sources told the Nation, the PM extended Aftab Sultan services on basis of the best performance during his last two tenures. They said that Aftab Sultan introduced reforms within institution and kept focus on best performance of IB. Aftab had served as Inspector General Police Punjab and he had good liaison with Police, Federal Investigation Agency and other security agencies. Aftab recently briefed the Senate Standing committee on Interior ministry regarding Daish presence in Pakistan.

On the other side, the federal government handed over the acting charge of PTV to Secretary Information Imran Gardezi after completion of two years contract of outgoing Managing Director PTV Muhammad Malick on February 27th.

Ministry of Information forwarded the summary of Secretary Information Imran Gardezi as acting MD PTV on Friday evening. Gardezi had been promoted to grade 22 and appointed as secretary Information last week. He is very seasonal and well reputed bureaucrat and belongs to Information group. With completion of Malick’s contract, channel head of PTV World and senior journalist Owais Tohid also resigned from the post who was appointed by Muhammad Malick. Owais announced his resignation on social media on Saturday. Earlier, the federal government appointed senior columnist Atta-ul-Qasmi as Chairman PTVC one month ago.
