LAHORE - Rumanza Golf Course makes Multan a prime golfing city of the world as the wind of change in the golfing landscape of Pakistan carries an engaging and delightful tone of congenial, comradely and appealing sentiment that results in a blooming phenomenon in shape of par 72, Rumanza Golf and Country Club Golf Course in Multan.
Launched as a project just five years back, this facility of excellence held the Rumanza Inaugural over the past two days after enormous efforts on part of DHA Multan, Sir Nick Faldo Design Construction, UK and the Project Team, who fulfilled all obligations through an ardent and profound effort that need to be commended and venerated with wholesome acclamation and admiration.
That the project stands completed as per schedule and without any over runs makes the country look capable and proficient and visibly apparent is sincerity of purpose even though COVID remained a stumbling block that was adequately neutralized through well thought out strategy and steadfast measures.
The Rumanza Golf Course was opened up for golfing action over the weekend through an exciting international event labelled as the Rumanza Inaugural and the international stars, who illuminated the golf course with their presence, included six times major winner, Sir Nick Faldo and also there was Graeme Mcdowell from Northern Ireland.
Another celebrity golfer was Rafa Cabrera from Spain. To add feminine color was the six times European Tour winner Charlie Hull whose mere presence on the golf course was an athletic site and she turned out to be an inspiration for the golfing fans and in particular golf playing ladies of Pakistan, many of whom were there for coaching tips and intimate closeness.
Pro Am golf competition represented a huge activity and seen on the golf course were foreign players like Sir Nick Faldo, Graeme Mcdowell, Louis Tyderman, Conor O Rourke, Jack Seaman, Luke Joy, Louis Campbell, Matthew Williams, Gabriel Maxwell, Max Brackely, Mac Boucher, Danny Cowell and the big names Rava Bello and Charlie Hull. As per pro am format, they played in partnership with Pakistani leading professional and amateur players and in the end, the victorious team turned out to be the combination of Mrs Nick Faldo, Shahid Javed Khan, Khalid Khan and Usman Akram.
Another event that was excitement packed was the Scrambles Match Play over 18 holes. And the participating teams comprised of Graeme Mcdowell (World class player), Charlie Hull the super golf playing lady from Europe and Hamza Amin, a top ranked golf playing professional of Pakistan and the other team comprised of Rafa Bello, the 2021 Spanish Open Winner and Ryder Cup Star, Ahmed Baig the number two ranked golf professional of the country and the teen aged sensation of Pakistan, Humna Amjad.
The 18 holes Scrambles Match Play was an exhibition of masterful shotmaking, focused and artful play from the fairways and then ingenious application of skills on an around the greens. And interestingly we had ladies like Parkha Ijaz, Ania Farooq, Ayesha Moazzam, Eman Ali Shah watch every action while also present were so many big names of Pakistan Golf like Asad IA Khan, Taimur Hassan, Ali Hai, Col Habib, Noman Sabir, Saim Shazli and Saad Malik.
The Rumanza Golf Course is the first signature golf course of Pakistan spread over 270 acres and it is Asias largest 18 holes golf course. A few distinctive features include a breath taking retreat with spell binding features that comprise of three zones, the desert zone, the wetland zone and the woodland zone that will enchant visitors with its lush green meadows and fruit filled orchards. The fairways grass is Paspalan Platinum plus the golf course is equipped with 51 Eco Bunkers and the golf course has already become a member of IMG (Prestige) which makes it rank among 200 best golf courses of the world.
The Rumanza Inaugural was covered live by Pakistan Television and on air were Robbie Greenfield a known media person along with Graeme McDonald, Sir Nick Faldo, Taimur Hassan, Chairman of Asia Pacific Golf Confederation, Asad IA Khan of Sind and Lt Gen (r) Hilal Hussain, President, Pakistan Golf Federation. So from now on, Rumanza Golf Course puts Pakistan right ahead on the world map of golf. Certainly a proud happening.
