The new PTCL local calling rates for domestic consumers are unprecedented and unjustified. The nationwide dialling facility, which is availed by 95% of business organisations, has been fixed at Rs 199 for 2500 minutes. For domestic consumers, who are mostly poor or middle class, it is Rs 2 per two minute. I wonder why print and electronic media ignores these gruesome issues that affect the common man? Their lack of timely concern for the problems of the poor could be attributed to the comfortable salaries that they have now as they don't feel the immediate pinch.
