Five members of an industrialist’s family were gunned down mysteriously in Defence Housing Authority on Tuesday.

Initial investigation revealed that the major shareholder of Sanghar sugar mills first shot dead his wife and three children and later committed suicide. They were the residents of Phase IV, DHA.  Police said that the victim also emailed his relatives and friends in which he stated that “there is nothing in the world”. The ill-fated family, included Abdul Jawwad Durrani, 52, his wife Wajiha, two sons Rehan, 11 and Arif, 4, and a daughter Rameen, 9. They were later shifted to JPMC.

Police officials said that single weapon was used in the killings. The weapon was also recovered by the police. It suspected that it was an incident of homicide as CCTV proved that nobody entered the home.

Police said that Durrani was working as director of Sanghar sugar mills while his family was settled in Dubai and arrived here a couple of days ago. Police have collected evidences and sent them to the forensic division of the Sindh Police.

Moreover, at least dozen people were killed in various incidents here on Tuesday.

Two people were killed and three others wounded in an incident of target killing here in the limits of Kalri police station.

Police said some gunmen riding three motorbikes started firing at Nayabad, Lyari. As result five people sustained bullet wounds who were rushed to the Civil Hospital.

Following the incidents, two PPP activists, including Haji Guddu and Muhammad Niaz were shot dead while passers-by Tasleem, Aslam and woman Ruqaiya were wounded. Police said the gunmen targeted PPP activists. The bodies were handed over to the families after autopsy.

Waseem Baloch, resident of Lyari, was shot dead in the limits of Kalri police station. Police said Baloch was associated with Akram Baloch, a rival gang of Lyari gangsters. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital and later handed over to family after autopsy.

A local leader of Sunni Tehreek, Faraz Qadri was shot dead while another Qamar Qadri injured in armed attack at Sector 5/B within the remits of Surjani Town. Police said that the victim Faraz was the in-charge of Gadap Division of Sunni Tehreek while Qamar waa former sector in-charge of Surjani Town. Tension prevailed in the surrounding areas of the City.

An activist of MQM namely Aftab Ismail was gunned down by unidentified assailants in Khuda Ki Basti area within the remits of Surjani Town police station. Police said gunmen ridding on a motorbike targeted him when he was sitting outside his home.  

A chemical trader namely Qadir Hussain was shot dead at his shop located at Jona Market within the remits of Kharadar police station. Police said unidentified pillion armed riders killed him and managed to flee while police handed over the body to the family after autopsy. A van driver namely Ghulam Muhammad was shot dead at Bachu Khan Goth within the remits of Memon Goth police station.

Police said he was resident of Lyari.

The motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.

A youth namely Rashid Hussain was gunned down near Fauji Hotel, Orangi Town within the remits of Orangi Town police station. Police said that the victim was resident of the same area. He was going home when some armed riders targeted him.

Shershah Police found a torture-marked body of a young man from Miranaka. The body was moved to morgue after autopsy at Civil Hospital where victim’s family identified as Muhammad Azeem, resident of New Karachi area.

Similarly, Pak Colony Police found another bullet-riddled body of a young man near Mewa Shah graveyard. The identification of the victim has yet to be ascertained. Police moved the body to morgue for identification after postmortem at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Separately, a 50-year-old man was shot dead in Rasheedabad area within the remits of Manghopir police station. Police said that unidentified armed riders shot him twice in his chest and managed to flee from the scene. The body was moved to morgue for identification after completion of medicolegal formalities.

A man namely Javed Mehsood, 50, succumbed to injuries during treatment in ASH. He sustained bullet injuries on Monday within the remits of Manghopir police station. Police handed over the body to family after autopsy.
