Fatburger, Photography Club join hands

LAHORE (PR): Fatburger, a renowned multinational chain of gourmet burgers, and Lahore Photography Club have joined hands for the promotion of photography.

A prize distribution ceremony of an online photography competition arranged by Lahore Photography Club and sponsored by FatBurger, was held at Fatburger, MM Alam Road, Lahore. COO of Fatburger, Amir Kamal was present on the occasion along with the chief guest, Syed Ghazi, a renowned photographer. He distributed prizes among the winners, Abdul Raphy, Sher Muhammad, Saad Rana and appreciated the efforts of Lahore Photography Club and Fatburger for the promotion of photography.

Exhibition- 2015

KARACHI (Staff Reporter): President Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra has appreciated the efforts made by PAPGAI for promoting printing industry locally and internationally. He acknowledges the contribution of printing industry towards employment generation and business for the country. He added that “the chamber will use his platform to support and highlight any issues related to printing industry”.

Iftikhar Ahmed was the chief guest at the soft launch of Printpak 2015 which was held in a local hotel in Karachi. The 25th edition of PrintPak, the Printing and Graphic Arts exhibition is scheduled to be held from 21st to 23rd of November, 2015 at Karachi Expo Center, Pakistan.

Local and foreign companies from around the world will take part in the exhibition and showcase their products and innovation in the field of printing and graphic arts industry. Numerous seminars and workshops will be held by top notch institutes as salient features of the exhibition.

Lecture at UMT

LAHORE (PR): Khurram Murad (1932-1996) holds a distinctive place in the world of philosophy and intellectualism. He was a great thinker, author, professor, mentor and effective critic of many popular ideas of his time such as Secularism, Liberalism, and Communism. He gave a new direction to the emerging Islamic movements and many of them were led by him.  He clearly influenced the secular ideas of many people, including politicians and educated class. He is famous not only in Pakistan but in Europe and the West.

These thoughts were presented by UK based renowned scholar and the professor of Leeds University Dr Salman Sayyid in Khurram Murad Memorial Lecture 2015 held at the University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore.

The Khurram Murad Memorial Lecture 2015 was also addressed by Rector UMT Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Farooq Salman Murad and Dr Aijaz Aslam.

Tevta to organise road shows in Saudi Arabia, Qatar

LAHORE (PR): TEVTA will organize road shows in Saudi Arabia and Qatar in May and June. The purpose of these road shows is to arrange overseas jobs for its pass-outs. TEVTA placement cell is collecting data of its pass outs across the province of the Punjab in this regard.

This was stated by Chairperson TEVTA Irfan Qaisar Sheikh in a meeting to review the progress for sending TEVTA pass-outs abroad. Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmed Qureshi, General Managers Hamid Ghani Anjum, Abdul Qayyum, Azhar Iqbal Shad, Ejaz Hameed, Amer Hasan and other officers were also present on this occasion.

Irfan Qaisar Sheikh said that the case of TEVTA Punjab is under process to get Overseas Employment Promoter License. Currently, a nexus with the Ministry of Labour and Manpower for sending skilled work force to Qatar is also underway.

We have introduced demand driven courses in selected Institutes which includes House Keeping, Beautician, Cooking, Solar Panel, Painter, Kitchen Helper, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Home Appliance Repair, Welder, Plumber, Electrician, Mason, Shuttering Carpenter, Steel Fixer and Spoken Arabic which will be beneficial for pass-outs to get job abroad.

Chairperson TEVTA further said that 500 Masons will immediately be trained at Multan to meet the job requirement in UAE. A successful meeting had also been conducted with the delegation of Jeddah Chamber of Commerce in Lahore to provide manpower in Construction Sector for expansion projects at Holy places. TEVTA will also arrange skilled manpower in other sectors as per their demand.  TEVTA has recently arranged an interview session conducted by UAE based company Mercury Meena at TEVTA Secretariat for the post of Electrician. 300 pass outs in Electrician trade were interviewed and 150 were selected for the job in UAE by this company in 1st phase whereas other 150 will be considered by this company and will be given job in next phase.

Dr Humayun elected PSNM president

LAHORE (PR): Dr Humayun Bashir, Consultant Nuclear Physician, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, has been elected as president of the Pakistan Society of Nuclear Medicine for the period 2015-17. This is a great honour, not only for him, but for SKMCH&RC, as well.

USAID programme will

bolster education standards

LAHORE (PR): USAID Teacher Scholarship Programme will bolster education standards through transforming teacher education.

This was stated by Prof Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman Higher Education Commission, while speaking at the function organized by USAID in honor of 27 scholars selected from all provinces before their departure to the United States for the USAID funded Master’s Program in Teacher Education.  The cohort of 27 students, five of them from each province, spoke about their aspirations and expressed their optimism about bringing in substantial improvement in teacher education in Pakistan.  

The USAID Teacher Education Master’s Scholarship Program is one of the many initiatives of the US government to greatly facilitate the development of a critical mass of research scholars and education leaders in Pakistan who will continue the teacher education reforms initiated through USAID support. This in turn will strengthen the quality of basic and higher education in Pakistan in an effort to promote prosperity and economic growth and overall improvement in the quality of life for all Pakistanis. The USAID Teacher Education Master’s Scholarship Program also aims to build the capacity of faculties of education and teaching training institutions in Pakistan and the development of continuous professional development of in-service teachers. The USD 3.5 Million program is expected to be completed in 2017.
