LAHORE - The Punjab University has set record by obtaining 269 positions in co-curricular competitions organised in 2014 all over Pakistan. PU students clinched 109 first positions, 80 second positions, 41 third positions and 39 team trophies which is the highest mark ever hit by any university alone.

This was revealed in the prize distribution ceremony of interdepartmental competitions winners at Al Raazi Hall here on Thursday. PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran, Dean Faculty of Law Prof Dr Shazia Naureen Qureshi, Director Students Affairs Shahid Mahmood Gull, Deputy Director Zubair Akram, Icharge Institute of Communication Studies Dr Noshina Saleem, senior faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

The team trophy of Interdepartmental competitions was clinched by Institute of Communication Studies. Addressing the ceremony, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that PU students were full of talent and the record number of positions that PU had obtained last year reflected that students being admitted on co-curricular basis were totally on merit. He congratulated position holder students on their achievements.

Director Students Affairs Shahid Mahmood Gull said that PU students were ambitious to show their talent and give outstanding performance. He said that the purpose of inter-departmental competitions was to encourage students to show their hidden capabilities. Later, PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran distributed prizes among the winners of inter-departmental competitions.

PU signs MoU with Polish university

LAHORE - Punjab University and University of Social Sciences and Humanities of Warsaw, Republic of Poland have signed MoU with to develop academic exchange and cooperation in teaching and research.

In this regard, an MoU signing ceremony was held in Committee Room of Vice Chancellor’s Office. PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran, University of Social Sciences and Humanities Angnieszka Kuszewska, Director External Linkages Dr Maria Maldonado, Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof Dr Massarrat Abid, Chairman Department of History Prof Dr Iqbal Chawla and Director Planning & Development Cell Engr.

Tariq Majid Qureshi were present on the occasion. The participants discussed various areas of mutual interest and stressed the need to enhance academic relations between the two institutions.

RESULTS: Punjab University Examinations Department has declared the results of MA Economics Part-I & II supplementary examinations 2014 and MA English Part-II supplementary examination 2014. Detailed results are also available at PU website

CONDEMNATION: The PU ASA has strongly condemns the terrorist act of target killing of a teacher, and demands the government to bring the culprit behind the bars, and ensures security for all university teachers.

Prof Wahid-u-Rehman who was murdered in FB area, Karachi on 29 April, 2015. Dr Hassan Mobeen Alam President ASA and Dr Mahboob Hussain Secretary PUASA said in their joint statement that this is continuity of target killing of faculty members and before today’s incident two other faculty members of Karachi University were murdered respectively in March and September 2014. They Said government must take serious action and immediately arrest the target killers.

PEF signs partnership with 22 schools

LAHORE - The Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has signed partnership agreements with newly selected private schools from 22 different districts including Lahore.

These agreements have been signed under expansion phase 9 of Foundation Assisted School (FAS) program which is aimed to provide gratis education to needy students in PEF sponsored schools in the province. Partnership agreements were signed with new partners from the districts of Sialkot, Okara, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Rahim Yar Khan and Vehari on Thursday.

Partnership agreements with more aspirants in rest of the districts will be signed in beginning of the month of May. PEF has also announced agreements signing schedule at its website for new partners’ convenience.

Meanwhile, PEF Managing Director Dr Aneela Salman has congratulated the new partners and hoped that this expansion will go a long way to promote education in the disfranchised communities.
