LAHORE - Rabia Tiwana topped in the ladies gross section while Rahina Ehtisham in the net section of the 1st Next Summer Spring Golf Tournament at the conclusion of the first round here at the Lahore Gymkhana golf course.

This golf competition is spread over two days and the first day was reserved for contests in the ladies category, juniors segment, veterans’ age groups and seniors section.

In ladies, Maimoona Azam won the second gross while Bela Azam won the second net. In the boys category, Anwer Saeed grabbed the first gross while Yasir Intikhab was second and in net category, Rehan Mumtaz was first in net and M Jalal was second.

As for the seniors, Javed A Khan emerged as winner as despite heat and strong competition, he hit the ball exceedingly well. On all par fours and par fives, his tee shots were loaded with accuracy and distance and as for his fairway shots, they too reflected crispness and class and his score of gross 76 fetched him the first gross. The runner-up in the gross section was Shoaib Bokhari with a score of gross 80 while the third gross position was captured by Asad Khan.

In the race for net honors, A Wajid Sethi won the first net with a score of net 72 while Dr Jawad, the heart specialist who has recently taken to golf, was second with net 72 while Farooq Aziz was third with net 73.

A total of 122 amateurs will compete over 18 holes today (Sunday) for glory and achievement. The more prominent ones in amateur category are Wazir Ali, Sardar Murad, Salman Jehangir, Shafiq Bhatti, Raza Saeed, Waleed Zubair, Nasir Irshad, Jamal Nasir, Farooq A Khan and Khurshid Aziz.

At the conclusion of the tournament, the prize distribution will be held at 5pm here at Lahore Gymkhna Golf Club lawns. Punjab Governor M Rafiq Rajwana will grace the concluding ceremony as chief guest.
