PM pledges to bring Fata into national mainstream

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Monday that Fata would be brought into the national mainstream and all political parties were serious of about it.

Addressing a tribal jirga in Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan Agency, he lauded brave tribesmen for their unwavering support in the fight against terrorism.

The PM inaugurated the newly-constructed Miranshah Market Complex by Pakistan Army Engineers which includes 1344 shops, parks, car parking, solar lights, driveways and water supply network.

He also inaugurated Ghulam Khan Trade Terminal, North Wazirstan Agency as part of Central Trade Corridor.  Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Zafar Iqbal Jhagra and Peshawar Corps Commander Lt General Nazir Ahmed Butt were also present on the occasion.

These newly-constructed trade terminal and communication infrastructure in tribal areas will connect this market complex with CPEC at Dera Ismail Khan and will have its share in national and regional trade routes and commercial dividends awaiting a new chapter of prosperity and economical uplift of the area.

The PM said mainstreaming of Fata is a key to its long-term progress and prosperity for which the government is working in line with aspirations of the people of Fata.

He said these socio-economic projects are just the beginning and many more such projects are in the pipeline for Fata in addition to the ones which have been completed or are in progress across FATA. Rehabilitation of TDPs and socio-economic uplift of Fata is priority objective of the government.

He said that basic facilities would be provided to tribal people on priority basis, adding Miranshah will be developed as it is the gateway to Central Asia. The PM laid a wreath at the martyrs’ monument and prayed for the departed souls.

The Express Tribune reported the elders of the Utmanzai tribe demanded fulfilment of promises made to the affectees of Operation Zarb-e-Azb. “The government should give reasonable compensation to the affected traders, shopkeepers and house owners,” the tribal leaders maintained.
