India suspends mobile, internet services in Patiala after Sikh, Hindu clashes

CHANDIGARH - In India, the authorities removed three top police officers from their posts after their failure to control clashes between two groups during an anti-Khalistan march in Patiala.

A curfew that was imposed in the city at 7:00 on Friday was lifted at 6:00 am on Saturday but mobile internet and SMS services were blocked in the city to prevent rumour-mongering. All mobile internet and SMS services, except voice calls, will remain suspended in the district from 9:30 am till 6 pm, the state government said. A spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said Mukhwinder Singh Chinna has been appointed as the new IG-Patiala Range while Deepak Parik will be the new senior superintendent of police for Patiala.Wazir Singh has been appointed as the new superintendent of police of Patiala.

Anti-Khalistan march

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann told reporter that Shiv Sena and BJP workers and Shiromani Akali Dal men were behind the clashes.
