While the rest of the country struggles to make ends meet, the federal government has directed the CDA to construct a 15km-long wall around the Red Zone in Islamabad at an estimated cost of Rs 8 billion. One might ask the so-called 'People's Party' government how does it justify such a huge expense on its own security while the people who put them in power are still struggling and scrounging for Roti, Kapra and Makaan? The Party's website boldly states "The PPP's commitment to freedom and fundamental rights, including freedom from hunger and want, is written in the blood of its martyrs and in the red marks of lashes on the back of its workers". Yet it feels no shame in taking friends and family for supposedly 'official' visits abroad, the money for which is filched from pocket of the common man? -FAEZ ROGER, Islamabad, via e-mail, October 20.
