LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the Punjab Public Service Commission to be more vibrant and efficient and make recruitments purely on merit. He said that process of recruitment should further be accelerated and Punjab government will extend every facility to the commission in this regard. He was talking to the chairman and members of Punjab Public Service Commission at the Chief Minister's Secretariat on Friday. The chief secretary Punjab, additional chief secretary, and secretary services were also present on the occasion. The chief minister said that only eligible and suitable candidates should be selected for 500 posts of assistant sub-inspector so that they could not only curb crimes but also prove to be guardians of the masses. He said that the commission had ensured complete transparency in the recruitment against 300 vacancies of the sub-inspectors during his last tenure. He said that strengthening of all institutions is the responsibility of the government so that they could function properly and impartially. He said that the commission is performing an important responsibility of selection of suitable candidates on merit in different departments. He said that government is taking effective measures for improving standard of education in the province and special seminars are being arranged for this purpose at district level. He said that educationists, teachers, students as well as parents are attending these seminars and submitting useful proposals which would help in further improving education system. He said that as Khadim-e-Aala, during his visit to various areas of the province, he had himself observed the pathetic condition of educational institutions. Therefore, he said, he is giving top priority to bringing about revolutionary changes in education sector. He said that he believes that the aim of progress and prosperity can not be achieved without uplifting education sector. He said that steps are also being taken for imparting quality education also in public schools so that students of middle class and poor families could also avail better educational facilities. He said that the Commission should further expedite recruitment process in various departments besides ensuring transparency. He directed that the system of tests and interviews for the selection of candidates be improved so that only eligible candidates could come forward. Chairman Punjab Public Service Commission Shahzad Hassan Pervaiz apprised the chief minister of the performance of the commission, procedure of tests and interviews, processing of applications for different vacancies as well as other matters. He said that modern technology was being used for improving the efficiency of the commission. He said that the system of tests and interviews had also been improved for evaluating ability of the candidates. He said that due to falling of educational standard, the knowledge of candidates for different vacancies was usually below average and immediate steps were needed for raising the standard of education. He said that the government had provided funds for purchasing eight and half kanal land in Johar Town for the new building of the commission where examination center and offices would be established. He said that standard of written examination conducted by the commission will further improve after construction of the new examination centers whereas the offices in the existing building will continue to facilitate the candidates. He assured the chief minister that the commission would uphold merit at any cost in the selection of the candidates in accordance with the instructions of the chief minister.
