The PPP government, after trying to cut down on government expenditures in the last few months, is now in a hurry to formulate and implement new policies that would differ from policies of the Musharraf era. As soon as basic stability is reached in the economic environment of the country, the people of Pakistan expect from the President to announce new policies based on self-reliance and improved governance. The government is currently trying to find donors who would inject the required capital into Pakistan's economy to help it sustain itself. The begging bowl, as it was called, might be out but it is out for a purpose. The purpose is protection of the rights of the people. Once this critical time is over, it is hoped the government would be able to fulfill all the promises it had made to the people in good faith. -MAHA MASOOD, Lahore, October 30.
