I have read with concern the news of Rs 1.7 billion loss of the National Logistics Cell (NLC) which took away the freight business from Pakistan Railways in the eighties to cause beginning of its current decay. No railway in the world can survive on passenger traffic alone. In order to restore Pakistan Railways and eliminate the evil legacy of the tyrant NLC, it should be merged with the railroad company. The two merged outfits can, then, be reorganized under professional, but not Khaki or Babu, management to be made profitable. The NLC has also destroyed the road network of the country and was, then, entrusted with the task of rebuilding it, probably as a reward for a job thoroughly done. In order to move forward, we must dismantle this tyrannical network. -DR. FARID. A. MALIK, Lahore, October 31.
