ISLAMABAD The low ranking Quetta slammed heavyweights Islamabad cricket team by 20 runs in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy cricket match here at Diamond Club Ground on Saturday. Hosts needed just 33 runs to post the victory on the last day of the match and they had two wickets in their pocket. Quetta required to surmount duo of batsmen to ink history and finally they succeeded to thrash hosts by 20 runs. Aran Lal gave the break through when Shehzad Azam gave a simple catch to Shoaib Khan Junior. He scored only 7 runs. After adding one run in the total, Islamabad lost their 10th wicket. Nasrullah ran out with out scoring a single run. He faced 8 ball during his 12 minutes innings. Ameer Khan remained not out on 53, was the only batsman to cross 50. He hammered nine 4s during his 195 minutes innings. He faced 131 balls. Arun Lal was the hero for the Quetta, who snared five wickets in his 21 overs by conceding 62 runs. Nazar Hussain and Jalat Khan grabbed 3 and 1 wicket respectively by conceding 60 and 18 runs. Also, Lal had got three wickets in the first innings. Besides Ameer Khan (53), Raheel Majeed (44), Umair Khan (35), Fakhar Hussain (24) and Rauf Akbar (22) were the top scorer for Islamabad. Akbar Khan and Qaiser Waheed were the field umpires while Farooq Shera performed the duties of match referee. Adnan Farooq was the official scorer for Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). HBLs left arm spinner Abdur Rehman restricted the NBP batsmen from extending the lead after they resumed their innings from an overnight score of 121 for seven as HBL bowled them out for 139 runs in nine overs. Rehman conceded just 10 runs in his 8.3 overs and later, the HBL batsmen overhauled the score by making 199 runs in 42 overs losing six wickets. Hasan Raza was the top-scorer from the winners line up making unbeaten 76. Earlier, opener Taufeeq, who score century in the first innings, contributed 46 runs while Saleem Elahi made 23. Fahad Masood was at the non-strikers end when Raza hit the winning shot. Uzairul Haq snared three wickets while drugs tainted Test cricketer Mohammad Asif got two in his 13 overs spell. Our Staff Reporter from Karachi adds: PIA as expected thumped Karachi Whites in the fourth round match of Quadie Azam Trophy winning the four day contest on last day by ten wickets here Saturday at the National stadium. Karachi Whites was doomed to defeat after they scored paltry 192 in the first knock and PIA supported by a superb 133 from opener Khuraam Manzoor replied with 432 for six declared taking winning 240 runs first inninghs lead. Karachi Whites batted courageously in the second knock to muster 276 in its second attempt taking marginal 36 runs lead which the airlines scored without losing any wickets to record an impressive victory. PIA was 40 for no loss with opener Khurram Manzoor unbeaten 30 and Agha Sabir not out 8. When play resumed on the fourth day of the match Karachi Whites was 209 for six wickets still 31 runs short of making PIA bat again. They succeeded in saving itself from an in innings defeat. Atif Ali Zaidi (70) and Baber Rehman 46 batted well for Karachi. Medium pacer Aijaz Bin Ilays took four for 46, and Jamshed Ahmed got three for 66.
