LAHORE - Pakistan thrashed Italy 5-0 in its opening match of the World Cup qualifying round being held at Lillie, France. Pakistan led the slow-paced first half by one goal and after entering the second half it banged in four more goals to earn valuable three points. Sohail Abbas produced two goals on penalty corners, one each in both the sessions of the match. Just in the eighth minute of the second half, M Imran doubled the lead on a penalty corner and in the 47th minute short-corner, Abbas made it three. M Zubair and Abdul Haseem Khan converted two beautiful field goals in the 52nd and 68th minutes of the match. Thus Pakistan began its World Cup campaign on a healthy note.
