LAHORE - Asghar Khan Anjum heaped praise on Lahores Pak Electron Limited players after watching his side enjoy a 1-1 draw against league-leader Khan Research Laboratories at the MTFA Ground, Lahore. The 39th minute equaliser from Pishin-born player stunned KRL in the Pakistan Premier Football League 2009. The other match at Karachi between Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Habib Bank Limited (HBL) also ended in draw at Korangi Baloch Stadium, Sharafi with both teams sharing four goals. KRL, who won the NFCC earlier this year at Hyderabad, not only took an early lead and dominated large parts of the match but also struggled to find a way past the tight defence and keeper in the PEL goal. The game was an exciting, end-to-end contest for the opening stages of the match. However, as the match progressed, KRL became the dominant force, but the side were guilty of missing some good goal scoring chances. They were eventually punished for their poor finishing when PEL hit the leveler, which arrived just before half time. Narowal-born Striker Rizwan Asif struck opener against his former team PEL in the 4th minute. The fast-moving front runner tricked and teased PELs defence before bending a shot past Pels keeper but six minutes from interval Pishin-born Muhammad Shair swept in Muhammad Adils cross to round off the perfect evening for the team, playing their second PPFL ever. It was second tight finish between two team as the first leg ended in 1-0 win for KRL. Samara Ishaq-led KRL earned 38 points in 17 matches while PEL yielded 20 in 16 matches. HBLs nimble-footed spearhead Muhammad Ishtiaq raised his tally to eight goals when he fired two goals in 2-2 draw with KPT. He twice gave advantage to the bankers but on both occasion KPT did well to snatch equalizer. HBL were the first to provide positive action when Khayal Muhammad moved into the penalty-area before hitting a shot from the top of the area which took a fortunate deflection and fell into the path of Ishtiaq who tucked the ball into an open goal. Defender Faraz rescued the portmen with 16th minute leveler. But KPT failed to extend their defensive quality as Ishtiaq scored a sensational 31st minute goal, deflecting a lob from Bilal Ahmed over the keepers head and into the net. But KPT, down 1-2 at interval, continued to press hard throughout the match and Muhammad Waseem made it 2-2 in the 71st minute. It was second leg between two well-known Karachi teams within four days as KPT won the first leg 1-0 on 27 October. HBL recorded 23 points in 18 matches while KPT collected 30 points in 18 games.Sunday (November 1) : Army v Navy (MTFA Ground, Lahore 2.30 PM), WAPDA v PAF (Railway Stadium, Garhi Shahue, Lahore 2.30 PM).
