ISLAMABAD - Sindh PPP General Secretary, Saeed Ghani, has finally decided to respect law and abide by the October 30 order of the SHC by removing all obstructions in front of the MCBs main entrance at MCB Tower, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Karachi. Earlier, orders of the SHC were openly violated by Ghani who was aided in his defiance by an official of Sindh Administration, especially the Home Secretary and IG Police. Clearly guilty of contempt of court, these officials not only turned a blind eye as Mr Ghani harassed MCB clients, blocked access to the Bank and threatened workers and officials of MCB, they also allowed the civic authorities to provide illegal electricity connection to the illegally set up tent blocking the banks main entrance on I.I. Chundrigar Road. However, finally both the IG through the AIG and Home Secretary, during the SHC contempt of court proceedings on Friday, gave undertakings and assured the court on behalf of the Sindh government that the courts orders passed earlier in favour of MCB would be enforced without fail. In a similar vein, Mr Ghani the self-proclaimed patron-in-chief of the unofficial trade union undertook to remove the obstructing tent from the main entrance and also on behalf of his members not to indulge in any unlawful activity or prevent the normal functioning of the MCB. In this regard, he also undertook not to coerce or intimidate or prevent any MCB customer from accessing the Bank premises. The MCB workers hoped that their nightmare of midnight threats and harassment would finally be over. The business circles in Karachi hope that this will serve to prevent other politically-backed individuals from terrorising Pakistani businesses and banks.
