PESHAWAR - The World Bank (WB) has refused to carry out another survey for assessment of flood damages in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Rejecting the demand of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for resurvey of damages inflicted by floods in the province, the World Bank informed the Provincial Government about the release of funds according to the earlier assessment. In a letter sent to the provincial authorities, the international body has clarified that flood aid to KP will be started from the coming week according to the earlier survey. It is pertinent to mention that World Bank, after survey of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa flood-hit areas, noted a damage of worth Rs 105 billion whereas the Provincial Government objected to the report, saying the damages inflicted by floods were higher. The Provincial Government claimed that the province had received a big setback to its economy and infrastructure due to deadly floods causing damages worth over Rs 200 billion. It also protested over WB report declaring KP province as less damaged area of Pakistan as compared to Sindh and other flood-hit regions of the country. The Provincial Government earlier demanded resurvey, however, after refusal from WB, it has decided to consider funds from WB, according to the earlier survey.
