Railway employees observe strike

QUETTA - Railway employees in Quetta resumed their duties after nine-hour long strike and restored train service to rest of the country when their demand was fulfilled. Earlier, a large number of employees went on a strike on Monday to protest the serious financial crisis in the department due to alleged corruption and disconnection of power supply to railway colonies. They said the electricity connections of the railway colonies, besides other departments had also been disconnected for non-payment of dues to Qesco by their cash-starved organisation. They demanded of the federal and provincial governments to play their role in improving the situation and threatened to widen the protest and strike if their demands were not fulfilled. Due to strike, departures of Rawalpindi-bound Jaffar Express, Peshawar-bound Quetta Express, and Bolan Mail for Karachi could not proceed to their destinations.
