Karachi - Pakistan People’s Party on Saturday claimed that it had received complains of rigging from various polling stations during local bodies elections from the upper parts of Sindh.

In a statement issued from PPP Media Cell, the ruling party of Sindh claimed that the election was rigged and said that even the Rangers helpline (715023) did not respond on time.

The party said that they received rigging complaints from Pir Jo Goth, Tehsil Sobho Dero, Kashmor and Shikarpur.

In Shikarpur, it alleged that Assistant presiding officer in Middle Girls School Rustam Road of UC 25 did not allow PPP voters to cast votes and favoured their opponents.

“In Pir Jo Goth, opponents tortured PPP activists and barged in the polling booth but the Rangers did not arrive on time,” they said adding that in Sobho Dero non-voters entered into the polling booth cast votes.

PPP MPAs Syed Sardar Shah, Sajid Jokhio and Pir Fazal Ali Shah strongly condemned violence during polling for the first phase in eight districts of Sindh.

In a statement issued from the PPP Media Cell Sindh, they said that the PPP is the custodian of values and norms of democracy and no other party is parallel to it. The PPP’s founder Chairman Zulfiquar Ali Bhutto, PPP’s slain Chairperson Benazir Bhutto and thousands of PPP workers laid their lives for democracy in Pakistan but the party refrained from any kind of revenge.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Dr Arif Alvi has said that Election Commission of Sindh failed to hold LB polls transparently in Sindh.

He expressed these views while addressing a press conference at Insaf House Karachi.

He said massive violation of code of conduct was witnessed during the first phase of LB polls in Sindh, ‘even the Sindh High court ordinance was violated’.

Accusing PPP-led Sindh government; Alvi said that PPP legislator Nawab Wassan during polls threatened the polling staff. PPP has made Sindh a police state while during the day PPP legislators along with police personnel not even threatened the PTI candidates and workers but also tortured them. He said that the party strongly condemns the firing incident in which PTI Khairpur District organiser was injured.

PTI leader further said that the provincial interior minster’s relatives along with the police were seen roaming inside polling stations and forced people to vote for their candidates.

He said that the people of Sindh have rejected PPP and MQM in Sindh province.

He said that the party earlier while expressing concern over PPP use of power before the LB polls demanded the EC to hold elections under supervision of paramilitary force rangers and Pak-army. He said that violence would have not occurred if the polls were held under Rangers supervision. He demanded the EC to take notice of irregularities and hold the next phase of the LB polls under the supervision of the Rangers and army.
