24th Palmolive Sindh Women’s Swimming Championship

LAHORE (PR): The ‘24th Palmolive Sindh Women’s Swimming Championship 2016’ drew to a close Sunday at Karachi Gymkhana. This competition was organized by Karachi Women’s Swimming Association (KWSA) & sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive (Pakistan) Ltd. Zulfiqar Lakhani, MD of Colgate-Palmolive (Pakistan), attended the final prize distribution ceremony.

 

 

Govt, UN collaborate to implement New Urban Agenda

 

LAHORE (PR): By 2030, Pakistan’s population is expected to reach 260 million and half of the population will live in urban areas, making cities central to climate action, prosperity, peace, and human rights. On the occasion of World Cities Day 2016 and in light of the recent development of the New Urban Agenda which was adopted at the Habitat III Conference in Quito, Ecuador, on October 20, 2016, high officials from the Ministry of Climate Change and UN-Habitat gathered in Islamabad to discuss prospects of implementing the New Urban Agenda in the country to make Pakistan’s cities habitable and trigger economic prosperity.

Zahid Hamid, Federal Minister for Climate Change, said, “The Ministry of Climate Change and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in Pakistan have been working closely on various initiatives related to sustainable urbanization and climate change.

We are now cooperating in preparation of the State of Pakistan Cities Report, which will serve as an important tool for implementation of the New Urban Agenda which was adopted at the Habitat III Conference in Quito, Ecuador. Together, with other government agencies at federal, provincial and local levels, and all urban actors and partners, we hope to make Pakistan’s cities and human settlements ‘inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable’ as required by SDG 11.”

 

 

 

 

Bayer Pakistan seminar

 

KARACHI (PR): ‘World menopause day’ is celebrated worldwide every year in October. Bayer Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd hosted ‘World Menopause Day’ seminar here the other day. The seminar was also attended by Prof Rubina Hussain, Dr Sumbul Sohail, Dr Imran Choudhry, and nutritionist Amina Mujeeb Khan.

GO roadshow ends

 

LAHORE (PR): The closing ceremony of Logistics-Marketing Roadshow was held recently at Machhike, near Lahore, where a convoy of 25 GO (Gas & Oil Pakistan) branded tank trucks ended journey. This convoy started its journey from Karachi on October 20 with stopovers at Daulatpur, Rahimyar Khan, Burewala & Sahiwal where Customer Engagement Sessions were held, displaying GO’s commitment of having the capability of serving customers with on time supply and on specifications products.

Electricity workers meeting held

LAHORE (PR):  Country’s working class have paid tributes to martyrs of terrorists’ attacks in Quetta and condemned the killings of innocent Kashmiris by Indian armed forces. They urged the federal and provincial governments and all political parties to adopt ‘National Action Plan’ for development of the country.

They were attending a meeting that was held at Gulshan Ravi under the aegis of 1st Circle Union of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union CBA. The meeting was presided over by Maqsood Ahmed, chairman of zonal union. The workers’ gathering, among others, was addressed by veteran trade union leader Khurshid Ahmed, general secretary of the Union.

The house urged the management of the power distribution companies (Discos) and Wapda to upgrade the pay scales workers at the earliest and take measures to prevent tragic accidents of the line staff by ensuring the safe working conditions to them.
