Islamabad-On 29 October and marks the day when Turkey was formally recognised as a republic by the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923. The constitution of the Ottoman Empire was replaced and a new republican constitution was adopted on this historic day.

The Ambassador of Turkey Sadik Babur Girgin hosted a remarkable reception to mark the 94th anniversary of the Republic Day at the embassy lawn of the Diplomatic Enclave in Islamabad.

Although every function at the Diplomatic Enclave has its own flavour, the participation of a large number of people in the ceremony of the Turkish Republic Day was amazing, and it was one of the best receptions in the diplomatic enclave in recent times.

The Turkish envoy Sadik Babur Girgin has maintained the history of such receptions tremendously. The national anthem of Pakistan and Turkey were played, and a cake was also cut on this occasion.

The Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif and Minister of State and Frontier Region Gen (R) Abdul Qadir Baloch were the chief guests on this occasion. The Governor Punjab Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana, Deputy Chairman Senate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, JUI leader Maulana Fazal ur Rehman, Chairman of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Leader of House in Senate Raja Muhammad Zafar- Ul- Haq, Chairman CDA Sheikh Ansar Aziz, Additional Foreign Secretary Nafees Zakaria, Air Marshal Farooq Habib, Lt Gen Muhammad Afzal Khan and Admiral (R) ZakaUllah, Gohar Ayub Khan were also present on this occasion. There was a good representation of Pakistani armed forces. The red carpet on the lush green lawn of Turkish Embassy gave a great touch of hospitality.

The foreign minister didn’t deliver a speech and missed the chance to convey a message on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan.

The meeting of the top leadership of Pakistan Muslim League in London among Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Mian Shahbaz Sharif was the main topic of discussion among the participants. Some participants were of the view that a new NRO is in the process of making and consensus has been made to avoid any confrontation. While others thought that no consensus had been made.

The Turkish Ambassador S Babur Girgin has successfully brought the relations between Pakistan and Turkey to a new stage. Today, both the brotherly Muslim countries are cooperating in various fields of life, and the prospects of enhancement of this cooperation look promising.

There is a boost in the Pakistan and Turkey relations, and Turkish Airline has played a vital role in this regard.

The Ambassador of Turkey read out the message of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an in which he said that this day is a significant milestone in the glorious history of the Turkish nation and it marked the 94th anniversary of the proclamation of the republic.

He wished Allah’s mercy on their heroic soldiers for defending their motherland for a thousand of years and particularly conveyed gratitude to Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of Turkish Republic and triumphant commander of the War of Liberation.

He said that the spirit, which attained victory in Turkish War of Liberation and brought the Turkish Republic into existence, is still alive today just as it was 94 years ago.

He further said that the Republic of Turkey signifies the rearing and reborn of a noble nation from its ashes that prefer to die instead of making compromises on its liberty and honour.

“The ones rushing into Anatolia to loot the inheritance of the Ottoman Empire whom they named ‘Sick Men’ were devastated by the courage, determination and fight that the Turkish nation revealed and they went back as they came, just as in the words of Ghazi Mustafa Kemal” he added.

The president further elaborated in his message that the ‘glorious resistance against July 15 Treachery at the cost of 250 martyrs and 2193 veterans is the indication of this spirit.’ That night, he said that all members of the Turkish nation, including the young or the old and the women or the men, protected the gains of the republic.

He also mentioned, “We are proud of being a member of such a noble and heroic nation that has the ‘character of independence’; and in the last 15 years, the historic reforms we have realised in all areas from democracy to freedom, from trade to investment, from health to foreign policy, are the most obvious manifestations of this will.”

He added that Turkey is the gate of hope for all the oppressed people and victims in the world and will not allow the swarms of the killers as DAECH, PKK, PYD / YPG and FETO to keep them from their targets.

He said, “We carry on towards our 2023 goals by fighting against the headlines, conspiracies, pawns that are continuously thrown at us and hopefully reach our goals with the support of our friends, brothers and sisters; the prayers of the oppressed whose hearts and eyes lay with our country and the unity and solidarity of our beloved nation.”
