LAHORE - Mainstream religious and religio political parties held countrywide demonstrations on Friday to condemn the US threats and to urge the rulers to take a bold stance to defend national sovereignty. Sunni Ittehad Council observed 'condemn America day on Friday to convey sentiments of the masses on the threats given to Pakistan. Ulema and khateeb delivered speeches against the US during Friday prayers. After the prayers, demonstrations were held outside mosques and different places across the country including the City. Addressing Jumma congregation at Mansoora mosque, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan said that the nation must keep the rulers under pressure to ensure the implementation of the APCs decisions. He said this was the opportune moment to get out of the US slavery but if the masses were not vigilant, the rulers would soon bow down before Washington. The US, he said, was blaming Pakistan for its failures despite huge sacrifices. He said the terrorism and lawlessness in the country was primarily due to pro-US policies of the rulers. He said the civil and military leadership attending the APC had finally accepted the JI stance that issues should be resolved through dialogue instead of through force. He said had the government implemented the decisions of the previous APCs and the parliaments resolutions, the US could not have dared to hurl threats at this moment. He warned that if the rulers once again attempted to put the APC decisions at the backburner, they would not escape the wrath of the masses. He said the JI was the only party that had also been raising its voice about the problems and the deprivations of the general public besides the vital national issues. It had opposed the military operation in the Khyber PK and Baluchistan and had also informed the people of the serious consequences. He welcomed the formation of a parliamentary committee to report on the implementation of the APC decisions and parliaments previous resolutions as a positive step. JI Lahore held protest demo against American threats outside Mansoora. Dr Fareed Paracha, Ameerul Azeem, Zikrullah Mujahid and Abdul Aziz Abid led the demonstration largely attended by party workers. The participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed with writings against the US. They also chanted anti US slogans. Addressing the participants, Paracha said that the US has lost the war on terror and now was holding Pakistan responsible for the defeat. He said the nation was united to fail the nefarious designs of the enemy. SIC, Sunni Tehreek, ATI and various other organisations held rallies outside Lahore Press Club to convey a strong message to the world. Pir Athar-ul-Qadri, Haseeb Qadri, Nawaz Kharal, Naeem Noori and other leaders led the rally. Highly charged participants chanted anti US slogans. The speakers warned the US of dire consequences if it dared to attack Pakistan. They said that the nation would never allow implementation of Washington directions in Pakistan. They asked the US to stop attacks on Pakistani forces from Afghanistan. Mujahid Abdul Rasool led the demonstration organized by Sunni Tehreek outside LPC. The speakers said that the US was worst enemy of Islam and Pakistan. They urged the rulers to reject all US threats, financial assistance and take decisions in accordance with the public aspirations.
