LAHORE The City police operations and investigation chiefs and over 13 divisional SPs have been confronting a major issue of non-availability of official residences since the retirement of former Lahore CCPO Pervaiz Rathore on April, 2010. Official quarters believe that the SPs are depressed over lack of interest by the provincial government and the top guns towards addressing their genuine problem. SSP Admin Tariq Abbas Qureshi said: Policy is quite clear that each cop would be provided official residence but currently we are lacking official residences. He, however, said a few houses have been allotted to some SPs but other officers have been already living at those homes so the big wigs are humble in vacating them. An SP said each cop of 18 grades was being provided only Rs 6, 000 as house rent and he has to manage residence with this amount. Earlier, Mr Rathore had initiated several developmental projects for the welfare of senior officers as well as the low-ranking officers. According to official documents, a copy of which is available with TheNation, Pervaiz Rathore started construction of residential flats for married police officers from grade 15 to 17. Around 1286/RET new security wall was also constructed, whereas the construction work at destroyed residences of police officers from grade 18 to 19 at CCPO office was also started during his tenure. He also got constructed one hospital and seven barracks were constructed at Police Lines Qilla Gujjar Singh. Muhammad Pervaiz Rathore also got approved the plan of constructing seven residences for the police officers of grade 20 at Mughalpura Police Station whereas 90 flats for the police personnel of grade I to 10 were also constructed at Bhubptian Choke, opposite to Pak Hero Motorcycle Factory, Raiwind Road, Lahore. Currently, Civil Lines SP (Operations) Omer Saeed Malik, CIA SP Omer Virk, SP Headquarters Athar Waheed and SP Mujahid Squad Romail Akram have been allotted official residences whereas DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar is living in his paternal home in Johar Town and DIG Investigation Ali Aamir Malik is living at his own house in Gulberg area. SSP (Operations) Shaukat Abbas has no official residence whereas SSP Investigation Abdul Razaaq Cheema has been recently allotted official residence in Chung. CTO Lahore Ahmed Mobin also enjoys official residence at Cantonment area whereas SP Traffic Headquarters Maroof Wahla and SP City Traffic Muhammad Asif have no official residences. SP Sadr Traffic division Mustafa has recently been allotted official residence at Mughalpura. A superintendent of police told this reporter that a former seasoned Addl SP City Division Asif Shahzad has got him transferred from Lahore to Multan because he was not provided official residence despite frequent requests to the department concerned in this regard. SP Investigation Civil Lines Liaqat Ali Malik, SPs Model Town Shoaib Khurram Janbaz, Malik Awais, SPs Iqbal Town Muntazir Mehdi, Sahibzada Bilal, SP Sadr Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera, SP City Anwar Khitran and SPs Cantonment Ameen Bokhari and Hashmat Kamal have no official residence, he added. Talking to this scribe, an SSP ranking officer said: In fact Pervaiz Rathore used to take personal interest in addressing our genuine problems, but now the situation is otherwise. The SSP said that former boss (Mr Rathore) was the man of qualities. In past, Asif Shahzad had got him transferred from Lahore to Jhang but Pervaiz Rathore called him back. Even knowing this fact that no residence was being provided to him on his return, Asif came back due to the affection and interest of the CCPO, he remarked. He further revealed that the construction work on official residences of SPs in 15 building adjacent to CCPO office has also stopped due to unexplained reasons. The building was completely collapsed during a terror attack in past. Moreover, the houses in 15 building have been allotted to those cops, who have been posted out of the Punjab capital, he added.
