ISLAMABAD - Approving seven audit reports, Public Accounts committee (PAC) meeting on Friday smoothly held under the chairmanship of Ch Nisar Ali Khan. As reportedly it was discussed in political circles that Nisar might announce to resign in this PAC meeting owing to some of his serious reservations. But the parliamentary committee approved audit reports for the years 1990-91, 1992-93, 1994-95, 1997-98, 2002-02, 2008-09 and monitoring and implementation committee annual report 2010. The chairman directed the PAC secretariat to get PAC reports printed at the earliest so that they could be laid during the forthcoming National Assembly session for debate. In his response to an objection posed by PML-Q leader Riaz Pirzada over non-appearance of apex courts officials before the PAC, Nisar informed that PAC had filed a review petition against Supreme Courts decision in which the court had exempted the institution from being scrutinized by the public accounts committee. The Chairman PAC also expressed his disappointment with the governments reluctance to implement order of PAC in some cases. Quoting one of the cases, he said that Saeedur Rahman, Member Finance CDA, who had been found guilty in the NLC scam, was awarded extension by the PM even after his retirement as the committee had recommended the govt to take strict disciplinary action against him. Ch Nisar said that accounts of incumbent govt would be discussed in the upcoming PAC meetings. We had managed the affairs of PAC proceedings in a dignified way and same way will be adopted in future, he added. Newly appointed Auditor-General of Pakistan, Akhtar Buland Rana, whose selection for the constitutional post had been strongly opposed by Ch Nisar made his first appearance before the committee. He also praised PAC and its chairmans proactive role in running the affairs of the committee. Earlier, all the PAC members paid rich tributes to Ch Nisar for running the matter of committee in a dignified way and getting cleared the audit report in a record time. They also requested the PAC chairman not to resign from his slot. MQM leader Waseem Akhtar on behalf of his party asked Nisar not to resign from chairmanship. He appreciated the working of PAC. Noor-ul-Haq Qadri said that there were rumours about Chudhary resignation from the PAC chairmanship. Appreciating the PAC working, Ayaz Sadiq, said that Ch Nisar was running the affairs smoothly. Being a member of PAC, I have learnt a lot under the supervision of Chaudhary Nisar, he added. Having same remarks, another PAC member Noor Alam said that Nisar should not decide to resign from chairmanship. Chaudhary Nisar is running the matter of this parliamentary committee in very nice manner, he added. Nadeem Afzal Chan said that PPP wanted that Nisar should continue work as chairman of the committee. He was of the view that paras of some powerful people were not appeared in the committee, as no para regarding former president Pervez Musharaf and former PM Shaukat Aziz was discussed. It is wish of my party that Nisar continue to chair proceedings of PAC, he said adding that there were some shortcomings in the functioning of the office of AGP which need to be addressed. Other member of PAC including Yasmeen Rehman ,Zahid Hamid, Pervaiz Malik,, Rukhsana Bangash, Mustafa Shah (PPP), Asia Nasir (JUI-F) and other also asked Chaudhary Nisar to continue as chairman PAC.
