LAHORE Peshawar panthers and Rawalpindi Rams set-up a semi-final clash after toping their respective groups in the Faysal Bank National Twenty20 Championship at the National Stadium Karachi on Friday Peshawar stunned a star-studded Karachi side, which is led by former captain Shahid Afridi and included mostly the players with international experience, comprehensively as they outshone their much superior and pre-tournament favourites in all departments to register a 29 runs victory. Dolphins defeat means that both Karachi teams are now out of the tournament. Chasing a target of 178 in 20 overs, Karachi batsmen could only manage 148 for the loss of nine wickets in allotted overs. No Karachi batsman can stay longer on the wicket and only wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmad (37) showed spine. The second best was Shahid Afridi who scored 19 runs. For Peshawar, Nauman Habib took 3 for 27 while Nasir Ahmed and Zohaib Khan clinched two scalps a piece. Earlier, Peshawars Zohaib Khan scored an unbeaten 43 runs on 23 balls to help his team make 177 runs. Opener Rafatullah Mohmand (42) and M Fayyaz (39) also batted well. For Karachi Rumman Raees, Shahid Afridi and Faraz Amed took two wickets apiece. Rawalpindi Rams shocked Faisalabad Wolves by seven runs in a thrilling finish to reach the semi-finals. Set 166 to win, Faisalabad Wolves were restricted to 158-8 in 20 overs. They needed 25 to win in the final over and pace bowler M Talha struck M Ramiz for one six and two boundaries and took a couple but was caught on the final delivery needing eight to win. Imran Khalid (48) top-scored and captain Misbah-ul-Haq made a valiant 43. Earlier, Rawalpindi recovered after losing four early wickets to post a competitive total of 165-8. Umar Amin (53) and Jamal Anwar (41) batted well. Saeed Ajmal captured three wickets for 32 runs . In first match of the day, Afghan Cheetas, which had six players from Afghan national team, lost their last match to Multan Tigers by four wickets. Batting first, Afghan Cheetas scored 131-9. Multan Tigers responded with 135 for six with four balls to spare. Opener Najeeb Taraki and M Nabi batted well for the visitors. Each scored 34 runs each. Multan Tigers Naveed Yasin took four for 17. Multan opener Zain Abbas top scored with 54. Kamran Hussain made 33. Cheetas M Nabi (2-32) was most successful bowler.
