LAHORE In the situation when Lahore Electric Supply Company current Chief Executive Officer Salim Akhtar has been given extension for two years, Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) Managing Director Rasul Khan Mehsud on Friday issued notification for the appointment of Sharafit Ali Sial as Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) Chief Executive Officer. Following the notification, Sharafit Ali took the charge of LESCO CEO on Friday. However, LESCO BOD Chairman Ahmad Rafay Alam gave Mr Salim extension for working as the Company Chief till May 25, 2013. The tussle between the Rafay Alam and Rasul Khan on the appointment of the most efficient power distribution companys CEO further heightened when during a press conference Mr Rafay claimed that the BOD according to the constitution has had the right to extend the job duration of the Company Head. In a view of the betterment of the power company, we have right to authorise Mr Salim to continue work, he hold the stance during the press conference. But the senior officers in the power sector which has been backing the MD PEPCOs decision claimed that Rasul Khan as the head of the power sector has the authority to appoint the CEO.
